OTR Truck Driver Job Overview

OTR Truck Driver Orientation

Orientation Schedule

New hires in our OTR truck driver program complete a structured orientation designed to prepare drivers for safe and efficient operations.

  • Length: 4 days

  • Start Day: Monday

  • Orientation Pay: $300 per driver on the first check (paid regardless of whether orientation lasts 4 or 5 days)

Transition Bonuses

Drivers transitioning into the OTR fleet may receive the following bonuses:

Solo Drivers

  • CSA (PTO) Bonus on first check

  • On-Road Safety Bonus on first check

  • Additional On-Road Bonus after 30 days

Team Drivers

  • CSA (PTO) Bonus on first check

  • On-Road Safety Bonus on first check

  • Additional On-Road Bonus after 30 days


Orientation Locations for OTR Drivers

Orientation for our OTR truck driver job is available at multiple terminal locations:

  • Charlotte, North Carolina

  • Columbus, Ohio

  • Manchester, Pennsylvania (near York)

Pre-Orientation Requirements

Before attending orientation, OTR drivers must complete several onboarding requirements:

  • DOT Physical and Drug Screen (paid by the company)

  • Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) — required for company truck drivers


What OTR Drivers Learn During Orientation

Orientation prepares drivers for real-world road operations and company procedures.

Training topics include:

  • Road Driving Test – On-road driving evaluation

  • Safety Protocols – Review of company safety standards

  • Operational Procedures – Dispatch and operational guidelines

  • Omnitracs Training – Instruction on the Omnitracs system

  • Benefits Review – Overview of driver benefits and compensation

  • Hiring and Leasing Paperwork – Completion of onboarding documentation

  • Equipment Inspection – Required for owner-operators


Travel, Lodging, and Meals During Orientation

Drivers attending orientation receive travel assistance and accommodations.

Transportation

  • Transportation provided for company truck drivers

  • Rental car available during orientation

  • Owner-operators must bring their tractor

Lodging

  • Hotel accommodations near the terminal

  • Private rooms

  • Free breakfast included

Meals

  • Lunch provided at the terminal during orientation days


OTR Truck Driver Benefits

Our OTR truck driver job includes safety bonuses, health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.


CSA Safety Bonus

Drivers who meet safety performance standards qualify for a bonus every 90 days.

Solo Drivers

  • $875 + PTO with Hazmat

  • $700 + PTO without Hazmat

Team Drivers

  • $1,025 each + PTO with Hazmat

  • $825 each + PTO without Hazmat


On-Road Safety Bonus

Safe drivers receive an additional quarterly bonus.

  • $600 every 90 days for solo or team drivers


PasSmart Safety Bonus

Drivers who maintain a clean safety record qualify for enhanced driving speed privileges.

  • 68 MPH for 60 minutes per 24 hours (solo drivers)

  • 68 MPH for 120 minutes per 24 hours (team drivers)

Drivers must avoid speeding violations or safety probation.


Driver Anniversary Bonus

Drivers are rewarded for long-term service.

  • Paid annually on the driver’s hire-date anniversary

  • $100 per year of service with no cap


Health Insurance

Health insurance is provided through Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

Eligibility begins after 60 days.

Weekly Costs

  • Single: $66

  • Employee + Dependent: $142

  • Employee + Spouse: $167

  • Family: $179

Dental Coverage

  • Single: $3.75 per week

  • Family: $10.50 per week

Additional benefits include:

  • Doctor-on-Demand access

  • Cafeteria plan for pre-tax medical and daycare expenses


401(k) Retirement Plan

Drivers can participate in the company 401(k) retirement plan.

  • Company match: 100% up to 3% of eligible wages OR up to $2,000

  • Match contributions paid annually if employed on December 31

  • Eligibility begins after 90 days


Paid Time Off (PTO)

Drivers earn PTO based on mileage and service.

  • Solo Drivers: PTO earned every 60,000 paid miles

  • Team Drivers: PTO earned every 109,000 paid miles

  • Shift Pay Drivers: PTO earned annually on their anniversary

Drivers who qualify for the CSA Safety Bonus every 90 days earn additional PTO.


Band Pay for Short Hauls

The Band Pay program helps drivers earn more on shorter freight loads.

  • Solo mileage drivers earn higher pay per mile on loads under 400 miles

  • Additional pay increases as the haul distance decreases

  • Paid on both pickup and delivery

This system helps boost weekly earnings and rewards drivers for short-haul freight.
